Most Recent Episodes

We create narrated audio stories that explore focused topics with women marathon and ultramarathon runners from around the world. Each episode features one woman’s story; each series focuses on different topics. To date, topics include “experiences at South Africa’s 90-km/56-mile Comrades Marathon,” “running in a woman’s body: stories of RED-s, pregnancy, menopause,” and “insights into ultrarunning.”

Host, narrator, and runner Cherie Louise Turner takes you into the experiences these women have with this deeply rewarding and forever challenging endurance sport. The stories are ultimately uplifting and highlight the many ways moving your body with purpose impacts you and the people around you.

Runners featured vary widely: from world record setters to mid-life fitness seekers, the stories are as different as the runners who share them. The one thing they all have in common, however, is that they love to run. You may be even be inspired to follow in their footsteps. Where can your body take you?

Strides Forward is made for runners and nonrunners alike. And, we believe that everyone should feel welcome at the start line, the group run, the trail adventure, the road workout, the track session, and the post-race BBQ.

We also believe in the power of stories to inspire and empower, and we recognize that mainstream sports media is failing women athletes and has been for decades. In hand, we agree with Dr. Cheryl Cooky that the future of media for women in sports is in niche media outlets, not legacy media. We created our Rad Stuff page for this reason: to highlight the many places you can find stories about women athletes and/or created by women; we primarily focused on running and endurance adventure.  Strides Forward exists to help bring powerful stories about women athletes to light, as well as topics that impact women that aren’t talked about enough. We exist to be part of this ever growing collective effort.
