ABOUT STRIDES FORWARD
We share stories about running, told by women runners from around the world. Many of our episodes feature one woman’s story, focused around a topic that is central to her journey or central to her experiences as a woman runner. Some topics we’ve covered: aging and longevity, community building, RED-s, pregnancy, and the mental game, and we have an entire series about “experiences at South Africa’s 90-km/56-mile Comrades Marathon.” We also feature an entire series about 9 women’s journeys to the 2021 Boston Marathon: Roads to Boston 2021. This series traced the running stories of all these women, from the beginning, to earning their Boston entry, all the way to the finish line! We hope this series will continue to inspire runners to pursue their Boston or other running dreams for years to come.
Host, producer, and 52-year-old runner Cherie Louise Turner takes you into the experiences these women have with this deeply rewarding and forever challenging sport. Musician and runner Cormac O’Regan provides original scoring and sound design, which helps bring these stories to life. And April Marriner of Bonfire Collaborative keeps the show looking good through excellent design work.
Runners featured vary widely: from world record setters to mid-life fitness seekers, the stories are as different as the runners who share them. The one thing they all have in common, however, is that they love to run. You may be even be inspired to follow in their footsteps. Where can your body take you?
Strides Forward is made for runners and nonrunners alike. And, we believe that everyone should feel welcome at the start line, the group run, the trail adventure, the road workout, the track session, and the post-race BBQ.
We also believe in the power of stories to inspire and empower, and we recognize that mainstream sports media is failing women athletes and has been for decades. In hand, we agree with Dr. Cheryl Cooky that the future of media for women in sports is in niche media outlets, not legacy media. We created our Rad Stuff page for this reason: to highlight the many places you can find stories about women athletes and/or created by women; we primarily focused on running and endurance adventure. Strides Forward exists to help bring powerful stories about women athletes to light, as well as topics that impact women that aren’t talked about enough. We exist to be part of this ever growing collective effort.
